The stories were very encouraging. It’s good to know that the world is not as bad as we sometimes think. There are still good people in the world.

I decided to share some of the true stories I received about people who experienced unusual kindness from total strangers. The strangers’ acts were extraordinary and surprising, and they expected nothing in return. They are stories of being humane and pure kindness.

1. Joan’s Story – The Runaway Dog

Hi Enna.

I recently experienced unusual kindness from a stranger.

Two days ago, I took my dog Max for his evening walk. Suddenly, I accidentally dropped his leash and he ran fast and excitedly down the road.

I ran after him frantically. Unfortunately, I could not catch up with him because he was too fast.

I got really scared as I imagined all sorts of things that could happen to him. I thought of how he could get hit by a vehicle or even get lost.

As I ran wildly, calling Max’s name, a cyclist noticed my distress. He asked me what the problem was, and I just pointed at Max who was then taking a corner.

The cyclist sped off without saying another word to me. I continued running down the road praying that nothing bad would happen to Max.

When I was just about to lose hope of finding Max, I saw the cyclist coming towards me with Max in tow.

You see, when the cyclist sped off down the road, I didn’t know he had gone to look for Max. I just thought he’d continued with his journey. I had even forgotten about the cyclist.

Phew! You can only imagine my joy and relief when I saw them. I was so happy that I hugged the stranger.

The cyclist handed Max back to me, grinned at me, and joked, “Your dog is pretty fast, but my bike is faster”. He then took off on his bike.

I was overwhelmed by his unusual kindness. I don’t think I would found Max on my own.

Yes, indeed, there are still good people in the world. I’ll be forever grateful to the kind stranger.

2. Miriam’s Story – A Total Stranger Attended My Graduation

Hello. My name is Miriam and I’m inspired by Jermaine Gresham’s act of kindness to a stranger.

Last month, I also experienced kindness from a stranger.

I studied for my 24-month MSc degree online. That means I went on with my day job and lived in my country during my studies.

I passed my course and was invited to the University for the Graduation Ceremony. The university was in the UK. It was on another continent.

As a result, I had to go alone to the graduation. I could not afford to pay for any of my family members to accompany me to the ceremony. It was a very sad feeling.

I arrived in the UK three days before graduation. The day before the ceremony, I went to buy a dress to wear on my big day.

When I finally decided on the dress I’d buy, I asked another shopper how I looked in the dress. The shopper said I looked lovely.

She then asked what the occasion was. I replied that I was graduating the next day. She recommended the dress highly and I thanked her for helping me make up my mind.

Before she walked away she asked me jokingly where I would hold the after party.

I told her that unfortunately, there would be no after-party. As I said that to her, I was overwhelmed by emotions. The reality that I’d be alone at my graduation started to sink. Tears welled up in my eyes.

The lady was very empathetic as I told her why I would be alone and why there was no after-party. As we parted, she introduced herself as Jackie and requested that we exchange phone numbers.

That evening, my phone rang at around 9.00 pm. The name Jackie appeared on the screen. I could not remember who Jackie was. I however decided to pick the call.

She reminded me of our encounter in the boutique. I was happy to hear from her. She said she’d called to wish me well on my graduation day. She then asked me where I was staying and what time I was leaving for the ceremony. I gave her all the necessary details.

Early the next morning, Jackie called me again. She told me she had left something for me at the hotel’s reception. She asked me to pick it up as I left the hotel for the university. She hung up before I could get more details from her.

I dressed up and went down to the reception. I asked the receptionist whether someone had left something for me. As I talked to the receptionist, someone tapped my shoulder from behind.

When I looked, I found it was Jackie. She was dressed up, looking like she was going to an important function.

You can imagine my surprise and joy when she told me she would accompany me to the graduation ceremony. That she would stand in for my loved ones and my friends. I couldn’t help sobbing and almost spoiling my makeup.

When we got to her car, we found two teenage girls inside. They came out of the car as we approached. They were also dressed to the heavens. They were Jackie’s daughters and they were also coming with us for the ceremony.

To make a long story short, Jackie and her family stood with me at my happiest yet lowest moment.

I took photos with them after the graduation. People must have thought we were a very happy family. If only they knew that we were total strangers.

After the ceremony, Jackie drove us to her home. We had a small bash with wine and food. I stayed with them late into the night before leaving for my hotel.

Wow!!! I couldn’t believe what Jackie, a total stranger had done for me! She told me it was her way of giving back to God for His faithfulness in her life.

Jackie plans to visit my country in the near future. I intend to shower her with kindness when she comes.

3. Angela’s Story – A Stranger Helped Me During A Sudden Downpour

Hi Enna.

I experienced unusual kindness from a stranger a week ago.

I had just alighted from the bus and started the one-kilometer walk to my home. After walking for about 100 meters, the skies suddenly opened and it started raining heavily.

The rain caught me by surprise as it had been a beautiful, warm day with no signs of rain. I therefore hadn’t carried an umbrella. I wondered what to do. There were no buildings nearby where I could take shelter from the rain.

I decided to cover my head with my handbag (hahaha). I walked hurriedly knowing very well that I would be totally drenched by the time I got home. Oh, and my hair would be a mess, not to mention the likelihood of catching a cold.

After walking a few steps in the rain, I heard someone say to me, “Here, take this”. The voice was from a guy who was also walking in the rain. He handed me the umbrella he was covering himself with.

I refused to take the umbrella. How could I take the umbrella when he needed it? As if that was not enough, he was wearing a nice suit and classy shoes. I couldn’t be selfish enough to take his umbrella.

The guy insisted and literally shoved the umbrella into my hands saying jokingly, “A lady can’t be rained on under my watch. And, I can sprint – you can’t. You can keep the umbrella”.

I took the umbrella and covered myself. The guy started sprinting. I didn’t even get a chance to thank him.

I was amazed by the guy’s unusual kindness. What a kind gentleman! I got home safely and I got to keep a beautiful umbrella, thanks to a total stranger.

Oh, yes, there are still good people out there. All is not lost.

4. Jake’s Story – A Stranger Gave Me His Power Bank

Hi Enna. I have also experienced kindness from a stranger.

A week ago, as I waited to board the train from work to home, I received a call from my wife.

She sounded frantic as she told me that she had rushed our 5-year-old daughter to the hospital. Unfortunately, my phone died before she could tell me what had happened to our daughter and which hospital they’d gone to.

I exclaimed loudly and cursed! I was worried and anxious.

Suddenly, a guy who had overheard the conversation, asked me what the matter was. I explained what my wife had told me and told him that my phone had gone off.

The guy graciously offered me his phone so I could call my wife. My wife and I agreed that I’d go straight to the hospital immediately I alighted from the train. I gave the phone back to the guy and thanked him profusely.

The train arrived after 5 minutes and we prepared to board. Suddenly, the guy opened his bag, removed something, and gave it to me. I realized it was a power bank.

He told me, “Take this. You need to charge your phone to keep in touch with your wife”. I hesitated, but he insisted. He said, “I’m also a husband and father and know that your family needs you right now.”

I took the power bank albeit hesitatingly. I muttered some thank you words to the guy. We boarded the train and sat in different seats.

I charged my phone using his power bank and when it was slightly charged, I switched it on. I was able to keep in touch with my wife during the 2 hours train journey.

I looked for the gentleman when I was alighting from the train. I wanted to give back his power bank. The guy was nowhere to be seen. He must have alighted before me.

The next day, I remembered I could contact the guy because I had used his phone to call my wife the previous day.

I called him to thank him for his unusual kindness. I then asked him where we could meet so I could give his power bank back.

He told me to consider the power bank as a gift from a fellow parent.

The guy’s kindness was at another level! It’s a testimony that there are still good people in this world.
