Do you know there is a National Sisters Day? Now you know.
When Is National Sisters Day Celebrated?
National Sisters Day is an unofficial day celebrated annually on the first Sunday of August. Many countries in the world celebrate this special day.
This year, the National Sisters Day fell on Sunday, 4th August, 2024.
The History of National Sisters Day
It’s not clear who started National Sisters Day or when it started. Some people claim that a woman known as Tricia Eleogram founded National Sisters Day in 1996. Her idea was to celebrate the spirit of sisterhood.
Who Are Sisters?
Obviously, your sisters are your female siblings. If you are lucky to have sisters, you are truly blessed.
My late, beloved mother gave birth to 5 children – four girls and one boy. So, I’m lucky and blessed to have 3 awesome sisters.
In fact, this year (2004) my sister Prissy’s birthday fell on National Sisters Day (4th August 2024). So we celebrated my sister’s birthday and National Sisters Day. Wow!
Fortunately, you can still celebrate International Sisters Day even if you don’t have biological sisters. You see, sisters can come in different forms and shapes.
For instance, do you have friends who have become almost like your sisters? Those are your sisters. So, celebrate them on this National Sisters Day.
Why You Should Celebrate Your Sisters
As I mentioned earlier, I’m lucky and blessed to have 3 biological sisters. They are all younger than me. I love them fiercely and they are among the most valuable people in my life. I honestly can’t celebrate them enough.
